'He basically ran into our arms for help': Person finds an itty bitty kitty freezing outside, rescues him and finds him the warmest and comfiest furrever home

When winter hits hard like this, it's not just us humans who have a hard time going outside. We bundle up as much as we can - coats, sweaters, layers and layers of fluff on our bodies, and sometimes, even that isn't enough. Now, cats… cats don't even have that option. So, what ends up happening is that during the winter, a lot of cats are freezing outside, looking for every bit of warmth that they can get. Sometimes, they can find it, and other times, the cats ask for help from us humans, and it's our job to listen to them. 

That's what happened in this story. This freezing kitten knew that it might not survive for long on its own. We don't know what happened to it or its family, but we do know that it made a choice, and that choice was to not be alone during the cruel winter. And as cats do, this kitten chose its human, and that human was left with no choice but to listen to the cat and rescue it.

  • Cats know when they need help. Kittens too. They may be independent creatures most of the time, and we know that they like it that way, but just like humans, sometimes, the only thing you can do is ask for help and hope that said help is given. It's a good thing for cats that they have an in-built system that seems to attract the right people to them.

    abriellecaton OP Went back twice within an hour. Short walk by my apartment and saw/heard nothing. This one was hiding under a work truck so we even checked under up in the car and heard/saw nothing. We think he either wandered away or mom left him. It was silent until we walked by and he started screaming so we ran over and he basically ran into our arms for help. It really is freezing cold here, warning for hypothermia within 30 minutes so we're glad we found him when we did!

    stringmousey A vet would probably say DMH, very cute kitty! Looks pretty healthy, keep an eye out for signs of ringworm or upper respiratory infection, as a lot of stray kittens/cats have them.

    abriellecaton OP Haven't had any couching, sneezing etc He's eating and drinking and made it through the night. Fortunately right down my street is a cat clinic so we're bringing him in

    He is bathed with warm water, lightly fed and hydrated, (we don't have anything other than soft adult cat food and don't want to overwhelm his stomach) Going to go back over to the area tomorrow to see if there's new footprints and or if his mother and siblings are in the area wandering.

    My sister will be taking him home to PGH and she's naming him Buffalo, Buffy for short since she's in town visiting us and just so happened to find him. He is doing well though! He has peed but not pooped, even after stimulating so hopefully he goes at some point tonight, if not we're taking him to the vet anyways so we'll figure it out. Other concern is his eyes. He's

    ok when he looks straight but when he looks up his eyes shake up and down pretty mildly. Worried about a neurological issue (maybe why mom left him?) Will update after getting him in! Thank you everyone for the hilarious breed comments we love them!

  • We're so happy to know that this cutie found a home. We want all rescuers to also become the adopters, that's true, but if they can't - and that's okay - the most important thing is to find the kitten a good home where it will be taken care of for the rest of its life, and that's what this person did, and we thank them for it.
