Poppy was 12, and came from a horrible hoarding situation, and was very fearful of people when I adopted her a few months ago. Tonight, I told her I was ready for bed, and this is her in my lap giving me that look...

    • Ok-Celebration-2944 5h ago OP, I'm really really glad that you gave her a forever home. She loves you and it's only gonna get better from here. I'm thinking the shelter was concerned about her going to a house, it not working out and her being back again to the shelter. That could be a very difficult experience on s senior cat. I'd never talk someone out of getting a cat, but I'm guessing they were just looking out for the senior kitty.

Saturday72 · 5h ago Why would the shelter suggest that? Isn't that what shelters are for. Unless this was more of a joke. Either way, she's beautiful

Flat-Limit5595 • 3h ago We also brought in a 12 year old. Born and raised in the shelter, was essentially feral since she was a jerk and the only human contact she got was during vet. My mom just walked up to her, puller her out and held her until she purred for the first time. Took her home

and she was a wild animal that swiped at us when we got too close. A few months later she became as attention demanding a cat can get. She would grab us with her claw, if we do what she wants we would be fine. If instead of petting her we pull back, we blod. Lived to be about 25 and didn't slow down till 24. Still not sure if she was a cat or if mom brought home a demon.

BlackCatWoman6 5h ago American Shorthair • Your kitty looks like she is relaxed and enjoying getting loved. I had a wonderful one from a hoarding situation. It took her 6 months to be comfortable in my house. She became my shadow and was the best cat.

EducationalState4374 .5h ago We just adopted a 2 yo male from the shelter. He was rescued from a hoarding situation too. He's generally fearful of people, but he's opened up to me and my daughter. We have a 1.5 yo female who's been with us since Oct 2023, so the new kitty is confined to my daughter's room. But he meows so loudly asking us to come pet him. Your cat and our new cat, as well as any other fearful cats, they all just need to be shown love

    • Separate_Beyond_3359 5h ago I suppose they had the best of intentions, but then you wouldn't have this special moment with your Poppy. Thank you for giving her a chance.
