Restaurant worker insists customer give delivery driver 1 star rating because he ate lunch before delivering, reheats debate on food delivery: 'He was on the clock'

One of the arguments that social media seemingly never tires of is that surrounding delivery apps. Treatlerites vs. Burrito Taxi Enemies seems to be a debate for the ages, covering all manner of different subtopics from worker's rights to gender. The truth is, the convenience of the likes of DoorDash and Instacart is something that many customers just aren't willing to give up, no matter what their complaints with the service or what ethical implications that it may have. 

So long as these apps exist, controversies are going to abound (on the internet, at least). There will always be different scenarios to consider and experiences to complain about. Delivery app discourse is almost as big a business as the apps themselves, especially when they deliver a service that proves to be far from perfect. Considering these are things where people expect efficiency and deviation from, it is going to raise some eyebrows.

  • One man started the latest round of discourse when he revealed that a worker at the restaurant he had ordered Uber Eats from had given him a message saying that his driver had eaten lunch while his order was ready, letting it go cold and making the worker cook another one. When he shared this on Twitter, people were inevitably divided as to who was most entitled here.

    Nate Rybner @NateRybner Replying to @SamsScrote Yeah I haven't done DoorDash since the early p ndemic when I would time prime hours to make $35 per hour, and I never ate while on the clock, if you're hungry and have to eat, clock out, don't let people's food get cold, then clock in and take another order.

I called the store and said why did i only get one pot sticker and a tiny bit of rice and 3 pieces of G. Tso chicken. They said it was full when it left here. So I tossed it.
