A cake can soften the blow of almost anything. As they say, a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. If my landlord told me he was raising my rent, but he spelled it out with icing on a cake, it would really help. Heck, maybe I'd even pay it then. Because everyone (who I've ever met) loves cake. There's a reason most of us request it on the day when we can request anything (our birthdays). A cake is the perfect way to be festive, to feed dessert to a crowd, and to display a message about whatever you're celebrating.

We're all familiar with the classic "Happy Birthday [Insert Name Here]" cakes. We know about "Happy Retirement Jen" and "Congrats on the Baby, Paul."
