This whole “we're a family” thing, most of the time, is a phrase used by bosses to justify negatively advantageous behavior. They know they call the shots, but they want to be able to sleep at night… so they pretend you're their brother (?) or son (?). Pulling the “family” card is almost more annoying than just taking advantage of an employee and owning it. Bosses prefer to compartmentalize their own behavior for the sake of their own peace, but as they do such a thing, their employees' contempt grows.
