Maine coon cat gets abandoned at emergency vet and loses all hope, but then he finds love with a nurse and gets adopted to a true furrever home

Welcome back, feline fam. We're here today with another heartwarming story from the hands of hoomans correcting the errors of bad people. We don't know how anyone could ever abandon a cat - it seems purrfeclty inhoomane to us, but then again, we have no idea what is going on in people's lives. But this cat isn't just any cat, it's a maine coon - one of the most regal and beautiful cats in the whole wide world. Well, if they don't want him, that's one more maine coon that we can take into our fluffy family, right?

This floofball below is called Desmond and he was abandoned at the emergency vet for people to find him. The vets got him checked and cleaned up, but the abandonment left an emotional mark on him. However, things all started to turn around when he and one of the workers at the emergency vet made a meowrvelous connection with this maine coon. Long story short, they're going to adopt him, and now he's going to be treated like the purrfect prince he is for the rest of his days!

    concerns before reaching out to a local rescue to get him into foster care. I was the lucky human to receive the call asking to go pick him up and he joined us in foster care on Saturday. We are calling him Desmond :) Hopefully his future is brighter than his past!

    rescue have been left at various pet stores, vets, shelters etc. Releasing cats outside/dumping them is also unfortunately common in Chicago :(

    Kitty_casserole OP • 15h ago My understanding is that he was in a carrier and left in the vestibule of the vet's building to be "found", so the vet team didn't interact with any human in this case.

    Interestingly, it's not uncommon for people to abandon pets outside of "animal" type places, or just other stores. I've had fosters come to me after being left outside of Goodwill, multiple petstores, and cats are abandoned outside of animal controls regularly even though they ask people make appointments and come inside to surrender the animal.

  • We mean, sure, if you must leave your cat somewhere, it's best to do it in a place where animal expurrts can give them the proper care they need. But it's better to not do it all…just a thought.

Rather than putting him to sleep or dumping him somewhere dangerous, they gave up their own happiness and love to keep him alive and get him in good hands that can care for him. My heart goes out to them, Desmond, and your rescue!

    my life. He finds rattlesnakes and will sit just outside their striking range and meow as loud as he can till we hear him and take care of business. He's saved my dad's life once from one. Wouldn't trade the dude for anything!

  • Ours too! The sweetest cat we ever had we found outside a movie theater. She was hiding behind a dumpster and we heard her meowing on our way back to our car after exiting the theater. She was our loving companion for 17 years. Love and miss you, Meow!
