This is about the sister's lifestyle, it's just absurd to expect someone to house not only you for free, but your husband and two small children. How big is the protagonist's home? It must be huge to fit a family of 4. He has every right to deny them permission to live for free, especially since it's such a long time. At the end of the day it's his home and he's not obligated to take in his family.

“You’re just jealous of my adventurous lifestyle”: Young couple and their 5 and 7-year-old children go bankrupt from traveling, they demand to move in with brother but he refuses, they call him selfish and the parents get involved
Traveling is one of the most rewarding experiences one could have. It's not necessarily just all fun and games. Traveling teaches you things about yourself that you can't find out any other way. It teaches you how to make plans on the fly, how to take care of yourself, how to see life through the lens of other people and cultures, and it teaches you how to deal with difficult and uncomfortable situations. You're out of your comfort zone, and it's up to you to make things nice for yourself. It takes a lot of inner strength and work, and you may end up meeting the love of your life on your travels as well.
There comes a time in everyone's life when they either feel the strong urge to travel, or they feel like they need stability. I know I certainly went through my traveling era, where I was going all over the world all the time. But I also came to crave stability, a 9-5 and sense of routine.
In the story below, the protagonist's sister and husband are young travelers, nomads who take their children along with them in the world. That is until they lose all their money and thus demand to move in with the protagonist.
