My sweet boy's safety/breakaway collar was evidentially NOT very safe. Got stuck around his jaw, and he completely broke off the top of his Remus trying to get it off. After getting x-rays to confirm, no local or emergency vets in our state seem to feel confident enough to fix it, so this

(and copious amount of pain kis) is the solution until we're able to get him in for an appointment at a dental specialist who may or may not be able to help a couple hours away. Until then, it's makeshift strap & toast of shame.

We'll be spending many thousands on this sweet dumb- dumb. I get it now, y'all. Don't even trust the breakaway collars.

First of all - WOW! I did not expect my little dumb-dumb to go viral. Thank you so much to every single one of you for the outpouring of support, for telling me your stories & experiences, and for all the incredibly kind words during all of this. My partner and I have set and read through EVERY comment and we're just in awe that the internet can be such a kind place sometimes.

Now on to the update! Oliver (Bane Cat/Hairball Lector) is having his jaw surgery TOMORROW, Friday morning! We are incredibly nervous but the surgeons seem incredibly confident they can help our boy. We think he'll be pleased with his new jaw of steel, and

especially happy that he'll continue on a wet food diet for awhile instead of his usual kibble. The boy is LOVING his wet food mixed with water that we slop onto the ground and loving call it his "gruel time". He did manage to get his headgear off the first night, so we had to go back to the vet to get the

J Strap 2.0, which is a slightly more secure version. He also kept finding ways to wiggle out of his toast collar, so now he gets to wear soft cones during the day, and a plastic cone at night. (He's big mad about the loss of his toast/pillow)

Also, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to the staff and vet at OKC Vet Campus. They have been so patient and sweet with our boy, and I have never EVER been to a vet that is as caring and kind and willing to work at his pace & level. Seriously, these people are amazing. We called

so many vets and they would refuse to even see him because it was outside of their specialty.

Lastly, I just want to say that, this surgery is going to be VERY expensive for us. We have had to take out a small loan to cover it, as 75% is required up front, with the other 25% required at pickup. If any of you kind souls should feel so inclined to help, or even just share his story, you can do that from this link: https://gofund.me/5fb7fb0e

mess of the collar so he couldn't close his mouth. I guess he was trying to get it off.. I'm glad i came inside when I did. Since that time I have never put a collar on him again.

Vet_Pawsitive I literally do this for a living and have never seen such a creative and effective jaw stabilizer. I will steal the idea to apply it with my patients when necessary.
