Went on a shopping spree, never had a cat before so starting from scratch. Hopefully I checked everything off. Signed the papers last Friday and picking her up this Sunday... the wait seems like eternity. Can't wait to post her when she is finally home.

Jaded-Mess136 · 1d ago . The only thing she is going to be interested in is the cardboard boxes. Keep those and your receipts!!!

SecretImplement8578 · 1d ago Awww she'll be your little girl in no time! Tips for first-timers:
  • 07
    1. Be patient! Every cat is different, and gets accustomed to new surroundings, people at their own pace. Ideally, you should a closed room where she can decompress in when she gets there, complete with her litter, food and water (keep food and water as far as possible from litter)
  • 08
    2. Play!! Playing with her will be the quickest way to bond, get to know her, and help her adapt. A wand toy is a great way to do this. Try and make the toy move like prey!
  • 09
    3. Smells are EVERYTHING. Cats intermingle smells to bond. A quick way to help her adapt to you and the house is to integrate your smells. You can do this by petting her with a sock (especially along cheeks) and just sort of rub the sock around couches, corners etc
  • 10
in the rest of the house. To help her get used to your smell, leave your dirty tshirt in there. I've had tons of cats have their favorite nap spot be smelly tshirts. Good luck, you'll do great!

CatMoonTrade 1d ago . Awww. When I got my kitty I was 29 and I was worried she was injured a few days after getting her and so I had to take her to the vet in my biggest soup pot seses It had a clear top. Omg, memories. She was tiny so she wasn't crammed in there. I was crying and carrying this soup pot to my car.

Just remember kitties attach to humans much like kids, w the same emotional structures in their brains. They need time, cuddles and love. Obviously, I'm sure you know this.

Educational-War5360 1d ago Top 1% Commenter Aww, it warms my heart not only excited but prepared for a new cat! With worms on a string and all. I will say, just keep in mind you will never have privacy again (especially in the bathroom) and they are very nocturnal so be prepared for 3am zoomies. Thats what makes cats so silly though

LittleredridingPnut • 1d ago This is so sweet, she will be so loved! A handful of things that took me a while to learn that I would have appreciated someone telling me-

Make sure you get a baggie or some cans of whatever they were feeding her where she is now, as they will need to be switched over gradually to make sure they don't stop eating. Wet food is best, but some cats won't eat it, or are particular about the type of wet food (pate, chunks, gravy, shredded, etc).
  • 19
Get yourself a cat water fountain and keep it somewhere away from their food and their litterbox. Cats are bad at drinking water and will naturally drink more if it is running water, and their kidneys will thank you.
  • 20
Make sure they have shallow, wide stainless steel or ceramic bowls to eat and drink from so they don't get acne from the plastic, or whisker fatigue from the bowl pressing on their whiskers.
  • 21
Handle her as much as she will let you while she's young so she will stay cuddly and friendly.
  • 22
Touch her feet and teeth occasionally so she'll be used to having her nails cut and being handled at the vet.
  • 23
At some point they will run around making sounds like a demonic little gremlin. This is when you know you have a cat. Enjoy your new best friend :)
