Entitled couple on a cruise assumes another guest was a server, taking food from her plate: '[I'm] not a cruise line employee!'

If only the apologetic and polite people pleasers of the world could have even an ounce of this entitled couple's Main Character energy. One can only hope to have the self-awareness of someone who knows the world does not revolve around them while enjoying the confidence of someone who takes up space and knows how to prioritize their wants and needs. It's the hardest balance to strike, and it's one that this entitled couple certainly does not strike well.

  • This cruise line passenger's husband was taking a rest and slept through dinner. Like any good partner, the passenger made their husband a plate and planned to bring her husband's food back down to their room following her meal. When she got on the elevator to do so, an entitled couple mistook her for a server and genuinely thought that the passenger was there to serve food from a plate to them on the elevator as if she were a caterer. When the passenger tried to explain the situation to the entitled couple, she might as well have been speaking in gibberish because these people simply could not compute that they were mistaken.

    On the first day of a cruise, my husband was so tired from a work sprint that wrapped just before our vacation that he wanted to nap during dinner. I went to dinner with the rest of the family, then made him a plate of food from the buffet.

    A second later, I had a thought that they may have been just that naive and explained I was a guest taking my husband a plate, and they roared with laughter. They thought the cruise was so luxe that they even had people in elevators feeding guests!

    It ended more light hearted than I expected and I still think of that experience fondly. I have learned to get a cover if bringing food to the room because of that incident.
