‘My dad would be disgusted with what she did’: 17-year-old son refuses to defend his mother against paternal grandparents after she gives his late father's belongings away to her new stepchildren

Losing a parent is one of the most difficult experiences any child could go through. They lose a piece of their family they will never get back, and anyone who attempts to completely fill the late parent's shoes will have an impolite awakening. There is no replacing a parent; There is only forming a new, different relationship with the child. If someone decides to marry a widow or widower, they need to understand this. If not, they risk ruining a relationship with their new spouse's children, so much so that the damage might be irreparable.
