There's this weird thing that happens, usually these days in your late 20s or early 30s when your friends start having kids. There's this weird shift where some friends are still trying to party while others are trying to settle down. Now those friends, with whom you've shared many debaucherous late nights (and early mornings) filled with hedonism, are suddenly responsible and boring. It's as if they've aged 10 years overnight and their priorities have certainly shifted. They no longer partake in the festivities, and you and your other friends, who are still vainly trying to "live it up" despite the fact that you know age is catching up with you, feel almost confronted by their presence.

The gatherings themselves haven't changed in a way that allows little ones to be present, so, thankfully, you find that the new parents leave early. But soon, they'll give up on coming altogether, and one by one, you'll watch all your friends moving on in their lives as you desperately cling to whatever sliver of youth you think you have left.

Her giving you the silent treatment is called "emotional blackmail". When it starts it never ends. Hold firm and don't give in. She's the one who decided to bring the baby. I absolutely understand the need for a new mother to try and reconnect or maintain connections with friends, but that can't come at the cost of other people's enjoyment.     Sweeper1985 NTA I'm a mother, and I know how hard it can be to try and get out with the baby. That said, if the baby is seriously going off and will not settle, the only option is to leave. She shouldn't have waited for so long before doing that. Still... if you care about this friendship, I'd reach out to her. She's probably struggling right now.

    LLD615 If it were me I would have declined the party invite unless you told me to bring the baby. And if you did tell me to bring the baby I would have left the minute the baby got fussy. Now I am going to assume this was a nighttime party. So the baby clearly wanted to be asleep or at least in its safe space at home when they were getting sleepy. She made a bad decision taking the baby.
