If you're in the online parenting/family sphere, you've probably seen a lot of talk about "going no-contact" recently. This is by no means a new phenomenon, but it appears to be becoming even more common, with people cutting off their families for reasons that range from totally understandable to head-scratching. It isn't easy to gauge a situation like that when you're not one of the people in it. An estranged mother might post on Facebook that her daughter cut her off for no reason, omitting the fact that she kicked her daughter out of the house the day she turned 18 and called her fat throughout her entire childhood. 

It's kind of rare for a child to cut off their parents for no reason. Maybe the parents think the reason is blown out of proportion, but there is a reason their kid has cited, nonetheless. But what about when there isn't?
