Stray cat approaches couple during their 2 AM picnic, follows them home, adopts them, then never stops cuddling them: 'She was so happy to instantly be cuddly with me'

You never know when or where the cat distribution system is going to get you. If you are chosen by it, then it can happen anywhere. You can get adopted by a kitten during a hike, randomly as you're walking around. You can have a cat walk into your home for no apparent reason and then decide to stay, and that will be that. You can have a kitten show up on your porch and simply… not leave until you do the right thing and adopt it. 

It happens just like that. And it could happen to you even at 2 in the morning, as you're outside on a random late-night picnic with your friend, which is exactly what happened here. Just a random moment in their life, and suddenly, a kitten walked into it. And these people did the right thing - they let the kitty in and gave her everything that she could have ever wanted in her life. As they should have done. And now, everyone's happy, including us.

  • Hey, she chose you, and you did the only thing that you could do. You accepted it. And that's that. Congratulations for getting adopted. We know you didn't sign the papers for this, but the cat distribution system works on faith, no paper. And it works purrfectly every single time.

    alldressedchipndip OP haha i replied the same thing to someone else but: line for the bar we wanted to get into was too long, but it was a very warm summer night so we walked back to our house and got snacks and hung out with our friends in the park. which was the universe bringing us together and now i have a best friend of 2 years

    alldressedchipndip OP she was out at 2am and wasn't going home. was extremely skinny. she followed us home and we kept her just for the night because there are a lot of coyotes in our area and we were worried. then took her to two vets to check for microchips and scoured the neighbourhood for posters. nothing came up and since then she has been a very happy cat who has no desire to ever go outside

    alldressedchipndip OP believe me i was very stressed that we took in someone else's cat. but she was so underfed and so happy to instantly be cuddly with me, as well as never wanting to go outside. no microchip, she wasn't spayed, definitely a street cat

  • It sounds like you did everything that you could have to make sure that you're not taking her from where she should be, as you should have. We're not worried. Looking at her, seeing how happy she is, we know and she knows that she is where she is meant to be.

    alldressedchipndip OP haha no her name is Sophie, The Thing (1982). Sophie after the musical artist because we were listening to her music when this cutie approached us. And my roommate wanted to name her after the John Carpenter movie haha, and honestly sometimes it's a very apt comparison. we usually just call her sophie or thing
