Post-partum cat surrendered to animal shelter finds purrfect joy in raising litter of adorable baby kittens that might not have survived if she hadn't meownifested motherhood (Video)

You know the saying that's been going around now - he's not the step-dad, he's the dad who stepped up. Well, this is the momma version of that. We love seeing videos of animals adopting babies that aren't theirs. Like when this sweet dog adopted a tiny orange kitten, or this cat adopting an otter to grow up into being besties. It just goes to show that we, as hoomans, still have a lot to learn from our animal friends. In this purrticular case, however, the story is about a momma cat who was surrendered without her babies and saved a litter of neonatal kittens by being their mom.

Without her, these kittens might not have survived. Sure, she may have been crucial to their survival, but we also think that they saved her a little bit, too. Sometimes, you just need a reason to keep on going, and these kittens were that for her.     However, just the day before, we had picked up Acorn from Chicago Animal Care and Control. She appeared to be recently postpartum, but had no babies with her when she came to CACC. We decided to introduce them to her to see if she would adopt them, and she sure did.

    Neonate care is a million times easier with a mom involved, and we were able to get them all into a foster home right away. Acorn ended up needing some help caring for all six babies, and our foster network stepped up to bottle feed part of the litter so Acorn wouldn't be overwhelmed.

  • Stop it. Literally stop it. We cannot handle all this cuteness. That is one fluffy kitten, and we don't care where they are found; we will find a way to get there and adopt them this very instant. This is why we can't go to animal shelters… we will walk out with an armful of cats and kittens!
