Maybe all of the ways in which you were once justifying the normalcy of your day-to-day at work have suddenly proven ineffective, and you have come to realize that this is not the place where you want to work day in and day out for the rest of your life. 

Despite what many folks will tell you, it isn't too late to change your mind, and most decisions in life are reversible. Of course, if you quit, you likely won't be asked back, but if you have chosen to work for a difficult boss for several years, there is no need to justify your regrettable choices by staying there even longer.
