'She knows I'm jobless': Former employee gets rejected from ex-boss, then asked to donate to company fundraising event

Imagine leaving a company on great terms and being encouraged to come back should the situation arise… until it does and they reject you.

If this has happened to you, surely you had a similar reaction to this author. The initial impression might be that there must have been some kind of mistake. After all, your former manager always told you that there would be a position waiting for you at the company upon your return. Maybe the hiring manager just wasn't informed, and there was an innocent mixup, right? That explanation would still be slightly embarrassing, but everyone makes mistakes.

  • This author finally decided to confront their former manager, who always seemed to be complimentary of their work and energy. However, instead of acknowledging their prior professional relationship, the manager simply replied with a stock email. That's when the author decided they were not going to get away with this kind of poor treatment. Once the manager acknowledged their mistake, she sunk even lower when she suggested that the author pay to attend the company's upcoming fundraising event… right after being rejected from them!

    Probably so they can be on- call the other 20 hours. Guess I dodged a bullet, anyway. It's just super disappointing, as now my fond memories are completely washed down the drain.
