‘[She] tried to offer me $5 “as a kindness”…': Karen neighbor throws toddler-level tantrum after guy moving out won't give her his couch for free, stands guard

  • "But I deserve your couch"

    SADIKAT! P Zip
  • My neighbor legit tried to claim my furniture after I moved it outside for like 10 minutes. So I'm moving apartments, and as part of the shuffle, I dragged my old couch outside while waiting for my buddy to come help load it into the truck. It's a
  • decent couch-nothing fancy, but comfy and clean. It's sitting literally ten feet from my front door. Enter my neighbor (who I've maybe spoken to twice, and not pleasantly).
  • She waddles over, eyes the couch, and goes: "Oh wow! You're putting this out? I'll take it!" I told her, "Actually no, it's coming with me. Just waiting for help."
  • She looks me de d in the face and says, "Well, it's on the curb, so it's public now." I'm like... what?? It's not even near the curb. It's on my side of the property. I say that, and she snaps
  • back: "That's not how it works. Once it's outside, it's up for grabs. That's the rule!" I didn't realize this lady was the HOA president of the sidewalk.
  • legit had to stand next to it to stop her from trying to sit on it while I was tying it down. She sulked like a toddler and muttered something about how I should "share with people who have less"... like she was some kind of couch Robin Hood.
  • Anyway, she glared at me the whole time we loaded it up and then tried to offer me $5 "as a kindness" in case I changed my mind. Spoiler: I did not.

  • Dubiousgoober She sounds entitled and insane. What a perfect concoction of stupidity. Icy-War2470 OP Right?? It was like watching a real-life crossover episode of Entitled People and Delusional HOA Moms. I half expected her to start measuring the couch with a tape measure and declare squatters' rights.
  • Speshal_ "Well, it's on the curb, so it's public now." Can I have your car then?
  • RJKimbell00 We did a garage purge once, pulled everything out onto the driveway, cleaned what needed cleaning, and rearranged everything that was put back in. Several people came up thinking we were having a garage sale.
  • Scoobadelik By her logic, literally ANYTHING she is bringing to her apartment is up for grabs before she gets it into the apartment. coatingtonburlfactry Yeah, any grocery deliveries or Amazon packages on her stoop are fair game!
  • IDGAF53 I was moving in to an apt years ago, put furniture on sidewalk, my bro standing next it. Some dude tried to grab it, says same thing. He got nasty until me and 3 buds walk out. Little pip squeak then walks away. Ugh.
  • Nikita Nee That is wild. The entitlement is real. And $5 for a couch? She needs to leave! StructureKey2739 I'd take the fiver for mental distress.

  • Rachel_Silver Those would probably sound farfetched if I hadn't had to help defend a neighbor's entire living room and dining room sets while they were stripping and waxing their hardwood floors.
  • KateA535 At least it's the old neighbour imagined this being the introduction to your new neighbour...
