May the 4th has come and gone, and once again I honored Star Wars Day the only way I know how—by spending a solid 45 minutes scrolling through the entire Star Wars collection on Disney+, pretending like this was the year I'd finally rewatch Andor or maybe dip into The Clone Wars one more time.

But in the end? I gave up and watched the original trilogy. Again. And guess what? It still slaps.

Maybe it's because I'm an old man who actually saw the original trilogy in theaters (yes, popcorn was cheaper and lightsabers were somehow brighter), but that late '70s, early '80s film grain is what Star Wars is supposed to look like. The practical effects. The slightly weird puppets. The charming imperfections. It's gritty and real and has that dusty, lived-in space magic that the newer stuff—while slick and shiny—just can't quite replicate.
