You'd think designing a toilet would be straightforward. Sit down, do your business, move on with your life. But oh no. Some toilets are serene thrones of luxury and privacy—and others are anxiety-inducing nightmares you'll remember every time you hear a flush for the rest of your life.

This list has it all:
– Toilets with scenic mountaintop views (for the brave).
– Bathrooms with doors made of absolutely nothing.
– Gold-plated lavatories that scream "too much money, not enough taste."
– And public stalls with layouts so cursed, it feels like a design challenge from Saw.

Some are pure design goals. Others feel like a social experiment in shame and vulnerability. Either way, you're going to feel something—and probably double-check the bathroom next time you're at a gas station, train station, or questionable bistro in rural Europe.
