Many kids, too many kids, grow up without ever knowing anything about one of their parents. They live their lives with one parent, who does everything in their power to never let their kids feel like they are missing out on anything by not growing up with two loving parents. Sometimes, that actually works, and the kids are happy with the family they were born into, and do not go looking for anything else. Other times, kids feel a strong need to find answers about the parent they never got to meet, and those answers are usually not easy to find.

If the parent who is there is willing to cooperate, it might not be so hard for the kids to find out more about the parent they 'lost'. But if cooperation is not on the table, it might take more time and effort from the kids to find answers, and those answers might not be what they were hoping for.
