  • My landlord is retired and has four vehicles, two dirt bikes, a snowmobile, a boat, a camper as well as a trailer. He owns his own house and the unit he rents to me.
  • I was in the hospital for a few weeks and asked for an extension for my rent as I couldn't work, which he graciously did give me, but then complained that he was

  • struggling because he had to pay $3000.00 in property tax. At that time I had $3.00 in my bank account, the monetary coincidence wasn't lost on me.
  • A week after I left the hospital he confronted me to tell me he'd been a blue collar worker until he was 50, and even at that late age decided to go back to school and become an engineer. He
  • expressed the opinion that I am still young and able-bodied and he doesn't understand why I just don't go back to school to learn a

  • He followed that up by saying that better paying jobs are plentiful and I should be trying harder and changing my attitude.

  • Apparently I'm competent enough to do whatever I set my mind to. I genuinely think he is so out of touch that he meant that all as a motivational speech and a complement. In this manner of
  • not being able to say things in a non confrontational way, he's successfully driven away all but one of his friends and his whole family.

  • He's an overall decent landlord, he fixes things right away anytime something breaks and genuinely tries to make my living conditions comfortable.
  • He's aging and out of touch. There is no such thing as walking into a business and saying you want a job and being hired in the
  • spot. There is no such thing reimbursed red trade certificates without another however many years apprentiship.
  • (I should add that he texted me that the yard work needed to be done the same day I was putting my Dad in hospice. I told him where I was and why I wasn't
  • doing the yard, but it just didn't seem to sink in. I an trying to keep an open mind because I'm not sure if this is true entitlement or just the beginning signs of dementia. In the end I'm
  • beginning to think extreme loneliness because no one is around to look at his accomplishments. That might be digging way too deep on my behalf.
  • TLDR, self absorbed, possibly entitled landlord who may instead be suffering from some sort of mental crisis
