'Looks like I now am a dog owner!': Lucky person saves $2k on puppy price tag by stumbling upon a purebred black Labrador puppy abandoned in the wild, immediately adopts them as their #1 canine companion

What's shakin', animal fam? Pawsonally, we adopted all of our doggos. When we were growing up, we always had a mix of golden retrievers and rescue dogs, but we're pawfectly happy with our shelter puppies at home. Why spend between $2 and $10,000 on a bred dog when you can get one for nearly free at the animal shelter? We're not judging those who do - we're happy as long as the puppers are happy, but it does save us quite a bit of money to adopt. Or, you can do like the family in the post below did, which was find their purebred puppy in the wild!

While out one day, they stumbled upon a 5-6 week old puppy in a cardboard box, all alone. They took the poor baby to the vet, and they said that it had "all the genetic markers of a purebred black lab". Well, if that isn't a one in a million chance! Not only did they get a cute canine companion, but they also saved about $2k. Read the whole thread below!

  • Labradors are like living vacuum cleaners/trash cans. They will eat anything and everything. Including your socks and shoes. Including the legs of your chairs. Including your iPhone. Yes, including your iPhone.

    fair game. Land shark phase comes soon then you would think. Also try to limit jumping off sofas or beds until they are a bit older so their hips are good. Most lab breeds are prone to hip issues later in life.

  • We don't understand how anyone could leave this puppy alone for more than a few seconds, let alone abandon them in the wild. We could never live with knowing that what we did made them sad. It would haunt us furever.

    My advice would be to start training early. Start small but get her familiarised with a clicker, associating it with a good action. My wife did it with ours, and it worked wonders. This plus the toys and the attention kept her mentally and physically stimulated, and she's never chewed anything other than a rogue sock.

    Other than that, take lots of pictures to watch her growth (which will fly by) and enjoy her company. Saw another comment saying it and I can confirm: she is going to be the love of your life.
