  • "You Want Your Car Back? Fine, Go Get It."

This was not me, it was my mother. My father d d in 2018, unexpectedly. 2 months earlier, he had purchased a new car for my mom, financing it through his credit union from work. Her name was not on the loan, because she was not a member of the credit union. When he made the 2nd
  • payment on the car, just 2 days before he passed, he mistakenly wrote the check for $5 less than the actual loan payment. So the day after he dd, the credit union called to ask for the $5. I answered the phone and told them that he had just passed the day before, but I would ensure that my
  • mother send them the money. The next day they called back and demanded the car back. They said since she wasnt on the loan it had to be returned. Of course mom had traded in her old car for this one, so had no other transportation. She tried
  • to get them to move the loan to her name but they refused because she wasnt a credit union member. She tried to get added to the credit union, but they refused because she didnt work where he did. They demanded the car be returned immediately. They called her every day for a whole
  • week. They had paid a good down payment and the CU was also refusing to give her a refund on anything. They were being such and here she was with her husband not even buried yet and having to worry about the car.
  • Queue her revenge: She drove to a dealership 6 hours away and bought an identical car there, in her name. She left the original car in the lot of the dealership and threw away the keys. The next day when the CU called about the car again, she told them where it was and to go get it
  • themselves. They still demanded she return it and she literally told them "f you, go get it" hung up and blocked their number. She said if they were gonna make her life hard, she was gonna give it right back. WTG Mom!!

  • tryintobgood Like they said. Mom is not on the loan..... they can't touch her Prior_Benefit8453 Oh good! This makes me sooooo happy!
  • Successful-Date-2260 Outstanding response! No_West_5262 Way to go, Mom.
  • Illuminatus-Prime If I understand correctly, your mom bought an identical car-Make, model, year, color and options, right? So... if the CU sent a collector who "repo'ed" the new car, they could be charged with GTA and face all kinds of legal hassles. Your mom righteously ROCKS!!
  • ComfortableWinter549 It was probably a new hire at the credit union thinking he could make his bones if he pushed an old widow woman around and got the car back. I don't think it would work well for him. That's the sort of bad optics that get people fired.
  • Traditional-Ad-1605 wow...a lot of horror stories with credit unions! I have one as well.. I worked for a Savings and Loan Association (yes, a million years ago) while I was getting my degree, and obtained a mortgage for my house through them. As an employee and CU member, I got a discounted rate on the loan. After a few years, I graduated, found a job in my field, and resigned. The CU immediately
  • rescinded my preferential rate and billed me for the difference between the discounted rate and the rates that they were charging! (Mind you, this was in a time when mortgage rates came in double numbers). They were the worst I ever dealt with, and my only choice was to refinance with a commercial bank. Joke was on them though...I lost a few thousand dollars, they went bankrupt.
  • commking They've been very clear, that it's not her loan, and she's not a member of their Credit Union. Why are they expecting her to return the car hahaha
