"British" coworker gets caught using real accent, employees discover he's been from Indiana this whole time: 'Who commits to an accent for three years at a corporate job?'

It's amazing the lengths people will go to be interesting at work. 

This dude thought that he could get away with a faux British accent for three years at the company. Clearly, he thought he would be more embraced in the office if he had something unique to him; in this case, being the only foreigner with a charming accent was his path to getting in everyone's good graces. The remarkable thing is that it actually worked for three entire years on the job. Clearly, the man either has a gift for dialects or everyone around him has never met a real British person in their lives. 

When the jig was up and he was accidentally caught using his real accent, the other employees took to the internet to discover where this guy was actually from. Let's just say that Indiana and the United Kingdom are not exactly one and the same!

  • One of the more amusing details in this story is that in the fallout from this coworker's accidental reveal, human resources got involved because another employee believed this guy was “falsifying his identity.” We wouldn't exactly go that far. It sounds like this was a relatively antisocial individual who somehow thought being from Great Britain could give him a leg up in the workplace. The man already has to deal with the embarrassing truth. Let's leave HR out of it, shall we?
