"[Am I wrong] for bringing my cat to the emergency vet with my siblings against my parents wishes?"

I'm worried about costs too but at the same time I'm not because I'm really worried about my cat

I (19f) with my two older brothers arrived 20 mins away from our town at night to go to emergencies for our cat (also reccomended by our vet) who hasn't eaten at all since last week after few visits to the vet as well during the week.

I understand their reasoning to be upset though because they're my parents, they're worried about our safety, they're worried about costs and frustrated with us.

I'm worried about costs too but I feel like such an a_h_le for going against my parents wishes but at the same time I don't because I'm really worried about my cat. Sorry if this is bad.

utahforever79 INFO: if you're 19 and your brother are older, are the 3 of you paying the bill? ER vet can run thousands of dollars. INFO: What kind of discussions did you and your siblings and parents have about the cat before you disobeyed them?

INFO: whose cat is it? And by that I mean who lives with the cat, does the litter box, gives her medicine, takes her to the vet, cleans up the rug when she vomits, buys her food, feeds her daily, tops off her water bowl, washes her bowls, buys her toys, and is generally responsible for her?

Top-Profession3827 OP I cannot pay but my middle sibling is paying for it. Not the oldest either he's not working.

The argument before was us asking our mother for a ride tomorrow but she refused and said she was annoyed with us and our cat. She's mostly worried about the costs of the visits and whatever treatment plant they offer. Our father threatened us saying he'd turn off the electricity and said we're stupid and he said to not bother him anymore he has work tomorrow. My sibling who's paying for it and I are the ones who take care of her. He pays for all her food.

Doenut55 There's 3 adult children and only 1 working. Your parents are concerned with costs because they can't afford all of you anymore. Feeding 5 adult humans, pets, and bills had burned all mercy to the pets by extension NTA. But maybe the 3 of you siblings can move out with the cat?

Top-Profession3827 OP Yeah that's what I was considering too. Luckily the bill wasn't too much but we couldn't afford the entire treatment plan... I do plan to start working I have interviews scheduled, especially so it'd be easier on my parents, all three of us are planning on moving out in the future but individually. Thank you for this, I really needed a reminder of what it must be like for my parents.

littlebitfunny21 NTA thank you for taking care of the kitty, I hope they get better soon.

RocknRight NTA. You're 19 and your siblings are older. I am sure three adults are capable of travelling 20 minutes. You are absolutely right to take your cat for vet care. Not eating is a sign that can't be ignored. Best of luck.

Renbarre You are paying for it, it is your choice. I hope they find what's wrong with your cat.

When you have a pet you sometimes meet that wall. Vet vs money. It can be a hard choice to make and needs to be thought through first. Your brother is paying for it, you might want to start a fund on your side to save some money so that your brother isn't the only one to pay. It will also help if you have further needs.
