  • "Sorry I am not moving this fallen limb blocking the road fast enough for you. Let me just move it from in front of my car to in front of yours."

After a round of big storms, I was driving to work, and this woman had sorta been tailgating me for a bit, nothing too severe, but annoying me because it is still raining out and the roads are slick. Nice car. Middle- aged looking driver.
  • I encountered a rather large branch on the road. I guess technically it was a limb? Not sure where the line is between branch and limb. Anyroad, it was a big enough sucker, but I thought I could drag it off to the side, so I got out and with some huffing and puffing started to move it,
  • and halfway though the woman beeped her horn. I looked at her because I thought maybe she was trying to indicate something - some danger or something, but she just held her hands up in a "Well what is going on?"

  • manner. I gesture at the big limb (trying not to increase the size of it with each telling) as if to say, "Can't you see this big thing that I am moving here?" and she just throws her hands up further a
  • little bit and then slaps them down on her steering wheel. Or at least that was my perception at the time. In my efforts I got things jammed up on a fire hydrant, and I am getting frustrated, and wet, and
  • this POS behind me HONKS AGAIN. I finally finagle the limb to the side but continue to drag it behind my car, effectively getting the heavy, thick end back in to a road- blocking position, right in front of her car.

  • I wish I could say I had the balls to look her in the eye, but the moment I let it down I realized how petty I was being and felt a sting of shame, and mentally slapping myself for wasting time doing this. I
  • hustled back in to my car and drove off quickly, and when I guiltily glanced in the rear view she had not gotten out or moved her car, and remained that way when I looked before rounding the bend.

  • TangoMikeOne I'd be generous about the first honk, and || assume it was a are you doing stopping in the middle of the road?" honk, but after that everything should be obvious and if she had to honk again, it should only have been a quick tap and when OP looked up, given thumbs up, smile, clap, something to show some gratitude and appreciation, so I'm very happy that OP overcame his pettiness guilt, she earned it!
  • berserk119 Nah, she earned that. Honking at someone trying to clear the road is peak entitlement. I'd have done the same thing.
  • dusinbooger My FIL once broke down in the road. He had the hood up, trying to fix it, when the car behind him started honking. After a few honks he calmly walked over to the other car and said, "If you like we can trade places...you can try to fix my car and I'll sit in yours and honk the horn."

  • Halfa ManYouAre People are so oblivious. Car broke down at a red light. Alternator went. Car was in drive. Couldn't move gear to neutral to push. Had hood up and had a friend coming to jump it. Car rolls up behind me, I'm standing literally by their passenger door waving them around. Light turns green, they lay on their horn for 10 seconds. Mind you, the hood is up, the trunk is open, and I waved them down.
  • bboru2000 Don't sweat it. This is the perfect petty. No one got hurt. She was being a j, acting like you were inconveniencing her when you were trying to do the opposite. So, you left her truly inconvenienced.
  • siero20 One day I came across a limb going across a two lane road. Not too big, was rotten and shattered when it fell so super manageable pieces. As I'm approaching I see a police officer do a u- turn to go to another road to get around. Same with two other cars going the other direction.

  • As soon as I put my car in park and just start moving things about 4 other people stop and get out and start helping. I did find it hilarious so many people opted for a 10 minute detour opposed to 2 minutes of moving wood by hand. But all it took was one person getting out for everyone to snap back and realize hey we can just move this thing.
  • MaraSchraag I love everything about this and fully approve. Well done! All you did was inconvenience her in the same way you were with her judgment looming over you. No harm done, in the long run. And maybe she'll take five seconds to self reflect and become a better person. Who am kidding? She's gonna be telling this story as if she were the victim.
  • qarsoodi She honked asked for it
