u/Golden Sandslash15 iPods were disallowed. No other MP3 player was banned, just iPods. They made it brand- specific, for some reason. you bought a Zune, you were fine. 243 ... trigunnerd⚫ Sounds like they had Microsoft in their pocket

notn3k ⚫ We have a similar rule now, no airpods allowed. Couldn't believe it when I saw the exact rule just said airpods. So my black wireless earphones are fine. Teachers just find it funny when I prove that they're fine and let me off.

slamyour kinadoor ⚫ I went to an all-boys school. We weren't allowed to have haircuts where the hair was deemed to be "too short" Our headmaster was bald... 221 ... • bibabenja ⚫ What would they do about it, a little shorter on the sides?
  • 04
slamyourd inadoor ⚫ • They never really set a minimum length, so it was tricky for them to enforce. They were lenient for most hairstyles. I think they just wanted to avoid students looking like skinheads (they were a big issue about a decade before I attended school) 39 ... BleepBloop7yt • Maybe he was bald because he was the Head Master

Ahole_Judge • The new headteacher decided there was a punctuality problem (school started at 8:55 and many came in at 9:00), so his solution was to change it so that school would instead start at 8:40... because that's how you solve punctuality problems, right? He then decided that we needed a 5 minute buffer in case of traffic and stuff... so it became 8:35 like a month later. And THEN he decided we needed 1 minute to walk to class, so it became 8:34 and he started posting teachers with watches

And the BEST part is that this school was rural and many of us had to take the train in... normally the train would arrive there at 8:45 ish, which was okay, but now we had to take a train an hour earlier and get out of bed an hour earlier, just to come to school before 8:00 and have a boring long wait, just to avoid detention. Many parents complained and the headteacher argued that they could all just drive us to school. Many parents couldn't, because of their own morning work commutes. Also th

MayoriFuji⚫ no talking in lunch, and if we talk the lights go out and you have to find your food in the dark- the took off that last part because people kept eating other peoples food by accident, and spilling many drinks 131 egg_mugg23. where did you go to school, the navy seal academy?

ChineseChaiTea We were not allowed to speak at lunch, so a group of us kids in elementary school picked up sign language and would speak by spelling out words alphabetically, mostly or sign a few words. Now if I were a teacher, I would be impressed at my students practicing spelling and learning sign language at the ripe age of 7 and 8. However my school hated it and would pull kids out of the lunch room if they saw us using it, believe it or not sign language was banned.

Another stupid rule, same school. We had no AC so in summer our rooms would be sweltering and over 100F even if it was cooler outside due to lack of ventilation. As students we started a trend to make little handmade acordian fans out of paper. This because a problem for our teachers as the trend spread all over the school. They found the fans a distraction, and along with talking, if we used them, spoke or broke whatever rule there was they'd shut the windows and make us melt inside the classro

bijouxthree ⚫ I had a teacher who would punish anyone with detention if they threw rubbish at the bin. The only exception was if you you got it in and that was all good. 68 nyanch • That's actually hilarious. Part of me wants to say that teacher is awesome.

osrsgaming⚫ We couldn't go to the bathroom in 4th grade because some people would s t on the floors. Like they banned the bathroom 48 Vegetable-Double hope y'all started sling in the classroom instead

nWo1997. One of my schools tried to regulate walking directions in the halls and stairwells. Apparently the "stay on the right side" suggestion wasn't enough. Basically, in X hall, you could only go right, and in Y hall, you could only go left. In X stairwell, you could only go up, and in Y stairwell, you could only go down. Turned a 1-minute trip between classes to a 3-minute trip. Oh yeah, and it was suggested that we go to our lockers and the bathrooms during the trips to and from.

If that doesn't count for being a regulation instead of an outright ban, then a different school tried to control our language by banning the phrase "what the." Not "what the the ," or "what the ," or even "what ." They tried to make "what the," without even a swear at the end, it's own curse word and ban it. Oh, and my schools tried banning MP3s on bus rides. Something about "some parents might not like the idea of their kid listening to your music." So, y'know, they could've just said "maybe d

Mike TangoVictor⚫ Our principal banned dodgeball. An epic teacher created a new game called "Proximity Awareness Ball" and we continued. That teacher is a legend.

Nik_Tesla ⚫ I remember they banned tackle football in my elementary school. We asked if we could have flags to make it flag football and they said no (they definitely had them), so we just kept playing tackle football, but when asked about it, we said we were playing "flagless flag football" and the recess monitor person didn't give enough of a to stop us from full on destroying each other.

sharrrper ⚫ Ramen Noodles were soft-banned from being brought to the canned food drive. What do I mean by soft banned? Well, you could still bring them and they would accept them, but they wouldn't count towards the total donations for class competition. They kept running totals of how much each class brought in (Sophmore, Junior, Senior) to see who donated the most.
  • 17
When I was a Junior some people got the idea to take up collections of money and then wait till the very end and bring in a big donation of purchased food on the last day to spike our total and not give the other classes a chance to respond. Well, the folks handling the money bought the cheapest thing they could to maximize count: Ramen Noodles. Last day of the drive there were like ten PALLETS of Ramen Noodles delivered to the cafeteria wrapped in plastic stacked six feet high. It was ridiculou

Yanigan ⚫ • All accessories had to be in the school uniform colours. Earrings could be plain studs, sleepers or crosses. No necklaces apart from crosses. Shoelaces had to be black. At one point they considered banning watches (this was long before smartwatches were even conceived) until someone pointed out that the students who left campus for free periods or lunch would have no way of knowing what time to return. So then watch bands had to be in school colours as well.

lokis_dad ⚫ I got expelled for having a goatee in the ninth grade. My mom had to threaten to sue the school district for denying me an education because I had facial hair. Now my name is in every year book for some reason.

SintaxSyns • At mine, it was the federal laws that never got enforced and the stupidest rules that were turned into principal's-office level offences. For context, I grew up in the middle of nowhere's armpit. But 1. Half of my school carried pocket k es and nobody cared. One time, a teacher had to open a box and asked if anyone had a k fe. Most of the front row offered theirs. He grabbed the one that was closest, opened the box, and gave it back. 2. During hunting season, it was very common for
