'I think I got scammed but I’m not even mad': Person buys an expensive black cat from an owner claiming that it is a Maine Coon Norwegian Forest Cat mix, the buyer is convinced they were lied to, but the feline wins over them anyway

One of the coolest things about being a cat owner is that we love all cats, no matter their breeds, no matter where they came from. A trashcan kitty is worthy just as much as a cat who cost thousands of dollars. Because cats are just… cats. And they always behave like cats - they will have the same moments of shenanigans and love, no matter who they are. 

We mean that. And still, we know that some people still have a special kind of appreciation for special breed cats, like Maine Coon cats or Norwegian forest cats. Those cats are stunning and meowgestic and amazing, and we understand why someone would want that. We are also really happy to see that when things don't quite work out, and the special breed cat that you paid for turned out to not be what you wanted it to be, that people still remember that cats are cats, and cats deserve love and homes whether they are worth thousands of dollars or not.

    I found a listing from an owner looking to rehome this kitten. He claims it's a Maine coon x NFC mix but I'm very doubtful of this. He's not very fluffy compared to other MC or NFC kitters. I've seen and is pretty tiny. I paid a fai amount of money for him because of this, and you know what? I'm not mad.

    He is the sweetest, most affectionate cat I've ever met. Worth every penny! Only took a few hours to settle in and before I knew it he was climbing up my arm and trying to sleep on my shoulder. I'm already in love. Any opinions on his breed would be welcome

  • You know… this is the kind of wholesomeness that we want to see more of in the world. Sure, we might be a little bit mad over having had to pay money for something that we ultimately didn't get, but none of that is the cat's fault. And the cat is a precious little thing and should be treated that way. Perhaps the CDS will bless you with a Maine Coon as well at some point. If it deems you worthy.

    Kellervo 9h ago This. When I picked up my soot sprite, they told me he was the runt of the litter, but his paws were huge for such a tiny cat. He's grown up to be even bigger than my parents' half-maine coons, and probably the biggest cat I've ever seen. Still has the gentlest, tiniest little meow though.

  • And you know what, these people are right too. The paws do little a little bigger than usual. Does tat mean much? Not necessarily, but maybe. Maybe your kitty is a mix of something.

    teslasneakthief • 10h ago Idk but he looks fuzzier than my two voids when they were that age and they are both shorthairs. I think you're in for a medium hair or long hair once they get older. Those ears and paws look too fuzzy for a short coat cat. You might have to wait a little for it to happen but I think it will.

    kai-is-still-alive ⚫ 9h ago My void was also part Maine Coon and looked quite disproportional as a kitten with his big paws and ears and long tail as he got older he took more after his British Shorthair dad, though, in terms of coat length and facial features. It's always a surprise with those mixes
