We would love to be able to bring our pupper to the office, but unfortunately, there are two things blocking our doggo from living the office life. The first is that she's not a normal dog, she's a bit anxious and really likes her pawsonal space. The other reason is that there is an employee who is afraid of dogs. With those two things ever present, we don't even ask about bringing her in, despite how much joy it would bring us. Why? Because the world doesn't revolve around us, and we understand that with pawfect clarity.

The problem is that a lot of dog owners don't understand that the world doesn't revolve around them and their doggos, no matter how cute and well-behaved they are. One employee decided to surprise his office by bringing his new canine in without asking everyone first. That prompted a very angry response from the office Karen, who then, as most Karens do, sent a strongly worded email to management. Did Karen overreact or did this dog dad spark unnecessary doggie drama? Find out below!

    Here's the story: I recently adopted a dog in desperate need of a new home. She was having anxiety issues and could no longer stay where she was. I brought her home and we started working through things and it turns out she is a super sweet, loving little girl -- cute, small, and a hypoallergenic breed to boot.

    Owning a dog is expensive if you work during the day because of dog walkers. So with permission of my upper management, I was allowed to bring the dog in once a week on Fridays. So far, so good.

    So my very first Friday I bring her in she is, as anticipated, the office darling. Everyone crowds around and says hello (ftr, she's a very well behaved dog, doesn't bark, and isn't aggressive). I let her roam around and get to work.

  • D'oh! Rule number one of successfully transitioning a dog to office dog - don't let them roam. You have to work them up slowly, introducing them to everyone, understanding the rules of the new space, etc, etc.

    Unfortunately, no one notified the entire office because one coworker comes charging up out of nowhere screaming at us "Who's dog is this?! We have someone with a severe dog allergy! This dog should be leashed! This is a workplace!"

    While I regret that they were't notified in advance, I do think this person's reaction was a little overblown. The dog went nowhere near this coworker or their teammates.

    Every time I get in an elevator with a dog and it starts licking my boots or sniffing my crotch the dog owner always says "oh he's just being friendly". I wasn't assuming he was violent, I just don't want him up in my business.

    responsibility to keep your dog near you and not bother others. If people want to see your dog, they can come over to your work area.

    You are lucky someone didn't kick your dog. If someone had, you would be the one in trouble because all they have to say is your dog tried to attack them and it was self defense.

  • The last thing you want is to make someone in your office feel uncomfortable, even if it is for a reason you can't fully understand. And even worse than that, you don't want the office Karen to have a pawsonal vendetta against you.

    IsNoMore YTA - There is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog breed. It has nothing to do with shedding. It comes down to the proteins in dander and ALL dogs have dander.

    There may be breeds that trigger less allergies, but that is not the same as none. What one person is triggered by will be different from another.
