Midwesterners have a reputation for being nice, but it doesn't always mean that we are. We know how to be passive-aggressive with the best of them. We will "Sure, Jan" our way into the pearly gates. Just because we want to appear nice doesn't mean that we always are. We will give you a scoop of potato salad and then say something about that dress you're wearing that will stay with you for the rest of your life. We can't help but be a little bit nasty every now and again.

Our weather is unpredictable and so are we. It's how we keep ourselves interested. Underneath all those smiles and cheddar cheese lies something darker and more nefarious. It's no wonder that so many horror movies take place in the Midwest. We're great at concealing our inner evilness. But not all of us have that, to be clear. Some of us are just nice.

And those of us who are just sunshine and roses keep ourselves that way because of memes. Memes keep our darkness in check and replace it with lightness. Because you can't feel evil when you're looking at a meme. I don't know if that's true, but I'm going with it.
