WIBTA if I give my daughter an "outdated" name?

1 (32F) am currently 7 months pregnant and we were told by the doctor that it's going to be a girl, so me and my husband (33M) have been thinking of names until we decided on a name we like, we decided to name her "Audrey" and

when I told everyone at the baby shower, one of my sisters told me it was an "outdated name" and that she'd get bu ied for having a name like that (which is funny because she wanted to name her daughter "Ashhliegh" pronounced as "Ashley" before her husband stopped her)

After a while of her making comments about the name we eventually just kicked her out of the shower and I blocked her on all social media's when she kept messaging me telling me to change the name So Would I Be The Ah le if I name my daughter Audrey?

    Commenters came to her defense.

ShadowBound13 • 2h ago NTA. Audrey is not a bad name, nor is it outdated. "Ashhliegh'" on the other hand, is a true tragedeigh.

    • Competitive-Reach287 2h ago Tell your sister you'll spell it Auhdriegh. She'll get on board. /s

LissaBryan ⚫ 2h ago . I imagine your sister is still p ed about being told "Ashhliegh" was stupid and was prepared to criticize any baby name you suggested. NTA

Frosty-Wood • 2h ago . Audrey is an elegant name. It's not outdated.

Zazzog 2h ago • NTA. Audrey is a beautiful name, and while I'm sorta old, I'm not that old. Besides, do you really want to take advice from someone who'd name their kid "Ashhliegh"?

ClaireL58 2h ago . NTA. Outdated or timeless? The first person I think of when I hear 'Audrey' is Audrey Hepburn... and who wouldn't want to be like Audrey Hepburn? Audrey also feels along the same lines as Emily.

I think that's a beautiful name. It's especially awesome that you and your husband agreed on it. I wouldn't take naming advice or put much stock into someone who was going to name her kid a tradgedeigh name. Now THAT would get her kid bu ied or her kids hating the name.

mooseplainer • 2h ago NTA. Gertrude, Ethel, Mabel, Edith, Agatha, those are outdated. Audrey is not. I know lots of Audreys born after the mid 1980s.

SockMaster9273 2h ago • NTA Never take baby naming advice from a woman who can't spell her kids name right. Audrey is not a name I would have gone for but there is unlikely to be another in her class, it's spelled right, and she will find it easier to get a job in 20 years than her cousin will.

Time-Conclusion4190 • 2h ago It's not an outdated name, but it sure sounds like she was trying to keep the name for herself, which is why she was so adamant about you not using it

    • Atlantic... 2h ago Edited 2h ago . Not sure where you're located, but in the U.S., Audrey is currently a top 100 name and has been for over 20 years! If anything, it's minorly trendy at the moment. NTA (and you wouldn't be even if it was outdated).

WaterWitch009 2h ago Audrey is a beautiful name! | know an Audrey aged 30, and an Audrey aged 4. Plus, both Audrey Hepburn & Audrey Horne are iconic and timeless.

EngineerRare42 • 2h ago NTA. The baby is going to be your daughter, not your niece, so obviously you should be able to choose the name. Also, Audrey is a beautiful name, and I'm half-wondering if your sister wanted to keep that name for another daughter, if she has one, especially as she's expressed a predilection for A- names.

FeralWineSips • 2h ago Your sister is an idiot. Audrey is lovely. She's probably trying to stir up drama because (thankfully) she didn't get her way with her own kid's name. NTA.

Automa... 2h ago Edited 2h ago • I've never thought of Audrey as an outdated name. I also would never accept name advice from someone who thought Ashhliegh was a good idea, no matter how much I love/respect them in other areas.

hissyfit64 2h ago NTA. Audrey is a beautiful name. Some old fashioned names don't age well. My grandmother and two great aunts were Elva, Edith and Edna.

graveyard_baker • 2h ago NTA lol. It's not outdated - it's a classic, normal name. It's a name that will suite a baby but also a respectable adult 40 years from now.

AccurateSession1354 2h ago • Audrey is a beautiful classic name. Yes there are some classic names that could have bu ying potential (Gertrude, Bernice) Audrey is definitely not one of them.

    • Constant_One2371 2h ago As a teacher, I can confirm it is not outdated, just unique enough that there won't be 10 of them in her class (there is usually one or two Audrey's ever couple years), and there is nothing about her name that will get her bu ied. Maybe some confusion with Aubrie vs Audrey...but you are good!!
