  • AITJ for refusing to move in with my boyfriend after he said I need to earn my place?

  • So my boyfriend asked me to move in, but said I'd need to "earn my place" first. Not in a cute way, literally said I'd have to prove I was worth living there.

  • He said since it's his name on the lease, I'd need to pay half the bills, do most of the cleaning, and show I'm "serious" before he'd even consider adding me.

  • We've been together two years. I already cook when I'm there, help him out when he's overwhelmed, even supported him when he was unemployed.
  • I'm not trying to freeload, I just didn't expect to be tested like I'm applying for a roommate spot.
  • I said no thanks, and now he's saying I'm not ready for a real relationship.

  • Mutual friends are torn, some say I should've worked with him, others say I should run.
  • It honestly felt more like a power play than a partnership.

  • Now I'm the problem? AITJ?
  • Glad Performer_7531 tell your bf a real man wouldnt speak to you like that.
  • aydahm OP I actually did. I told him straight up that respect goes both ways and I'm not gonna "earn" a place in someone's life like it's a job interview. If that makes me too much for him, then he's not enough for me.

  • Wetdogg72 Doing your fair share is reasonable.. fair share tho, you're not his maid, his chef or his laundry lady.. split the work, the bills etc.. but he needs to do his share as well! Don't worry about being on the lease, makes it easier to leave if needed..
  • Lynne1915 "Do most of the cleaning." Tell him to hire a maid and pay her "serious money." If you want to be amused and not abused walk away. He is not worth the effort to even discuss his slave interview.
  • Aella Reeves I think he just showed you HE can't earn his place. You deserve so much better. Dump him and find a decent guy.

  • Watching Telly Now He's got it wrong. You're clearly ready for a real relationship, he's the one who isn't ready! By the sound of it, he never will be. Do with that realisation what you will, but I suggest he's not "move in with me" material and never will be.
