  • "Wants me to paint her whole house for $50 ‘for exposure’..."

I do small painting jobs on the side and posted in a local group that I'm looking for work. This lady messages me:

  • "Hi, I need my living room, hallway, and two bedrooms painted. How much?"
    via TycoonPDX
  • I ask for pics, she sends them, and it's a whole house basically. I quote her $500, which is already cheap.
    via TycoonPDX
  • She replies: "Oh no honey, I was thinking more like $50."

  • I literally thought she was joking, so I sent a laughing emoji. She says:

  • "No really, it's just paint, it won't take you that long." I explain it would take me at least two days, and I need to cover supplies, gas, etc.
    via TycoonPDX
  • She says: "Well I can provide the paint, and you'll get great exposure. I have a lot of friends who need painting."
    via TycoonPDX
  • I tell her I can't do two days of work for $50 and "exposure." She hits me with:

  • "Wow. I didn't realize you were only in it for the money." Ma'am. It's a job.
    via TycoonPDX
  • She then says she will "think about it" and hasn't messaged me since, so I'm guessing she's looking for her next victim.

  • ZROC6 3 rooms and a hallway for $500? If you live in the US, I'll pay to fly you in, put you in a hotel, and pay for your meals to do that for me.

  • wyrmfood "Pay me $500 and I'll give you a coupon code. For every one of your friends that hire me at full price I'll refund $50 each." Lots of friends...sure...

  • Several-Hone... does 50 even buy a gallon of paint anymore?

  • Noodle227 "Wow. I didn't realize you were only in it for the money." Even if it's something that someone loves doing, most people do jobs for money. Especially when it's someone they don't know.

  • HislersHero How dare you want to get paid for working! This is what is wrong with people these days. They won't work for exposure. My 10 followers and 2 friends would totally hire you after they've seen what you have done.

  • Plumb789 "Exposure"? Lady, no one wants to be publicly exposed as the kind of imbecile who asks $50 for two days' work.

  • wardog1066 When I was young and naive I fell for one of these scams. I'll call it a scam because that's what it is. All of their friends wanted the same price. Never again because of course they did. Never again.
