Senior pets are often the sweetest pets. After enjoying a lifetime of adoration, their powdered-sugar noses and rickety old hips sway our souls and we love them evermore. But have you ever seen an old hamster? Probably not. 

Notorious for their terrible survival skills and their abnormally short lifespans, it's rare to find a geriatric hamster leaving our earth due to old age. Instead, online, we usually see stories of heroic hamster escapes that led to their untimely demise or other harrowing tales of dramatic hamster exits. However, Bambi, this famous hamster in our next story, has recently gone viral—not for her theatrical passing or her traumatic tales, but for celebrating her miraculous long life! At 3 years old, she must have been the oldest hamster to ever live, passing away peacefully in the palm of her hooman, relishing the global applause from her adoring fans. 

Bald or not, Bambi had a heckuva life for a hamster and looked pretty darn good for her age.

  • Only about a week later, Bambi's health started to decline and her vitality started to fade. However, this geriatric critter is a wonder in the rodent community because oftentimes small pets like hamsters, mice, and rats, only live for about 2 years. At this point, after her 3rd birthday, Bambi was well into her hundreds in human years, putting her lifespan at 150%. 

    Her life was long, prosperous, and genuinely a wholesome representation of what hamster lives could be like if they had better survival skills. RIP Bambi, you were loved and will be missed.
