'I have been manipulated into getting him a cat that I have to be responsible for': She thought she was adopting her new best friend, but now it feels like the cat isn’t even hers

It started as a purrfect plan: the hopeful cat adopter was finally ready to open their heart (and home) to a new feline after losing a beloved furiend. Misty, a shy but sweet silver tabby, seemed like the ideal addition to the family. But what began as a healing journey has turned into a whiskered emotional rollercoaster. Despite handling all the not-so-glamorous duties (nail trims, microchip registration, litter box cleanup, vet visits) the devoted pawrent is now playing second fiddle. The boyfriend, who didn't even pay the waived adoption fee, swooped in to claim the cuddles, affection, and even renamed Misty to Mr. Crunchy. (Purrdon?!)

While the pawrent juggles introductions with two resident cats and tries to create safe spaces, the boyfriend blocks access and bans treats. And yet, he still gets to be the "fun" one. At this point, it's feeling less like a shared adoption and more like an accidental handoff.

Now, this new pawrent is left questioning it all. Did she gain a kitty? Or just get manipulated into doing all the hard stuff for someone else's cat? Total catastrophe.
