These days, there is a certain strain of meme culture that makes a big deal out of girl's girls, and everything that is deemed to be girly. Once upon a time, though, the most fashionable way to be female on the internet was to be 'not like other girls'. This basically meant rejecting stereotypical femininity and embracing things that seemed the opposite to it, like nerd culture, sports, or generally being a tomboy. 

The majority of the time, this was in the hopes of appealing to men in a way that was nothing short of cringeworthy. Not that there is anything wrong with being a woman who doesn't like 'girly' things, but the desperation to be different for approval is always going to be embarrassing.
