Losing your cat is one of the worst experiences that you can have as a cat owner. The feeling of your heart sinking, the fear of something happening to your cat, frantically looking for it. Now, sometimes, you find your cat hiding somewhere silly and realize that it was all one big false alarm. And sometimes, it's real, and the cat comes back, and we end up getting some of the most heartwarming cat and human reunion stories ever. And truly, we have seen some amazing stories like that, but the one… is one of our favorites.

This lost cat didn't simply come back. It wasn't found by its human. It wasn't hiding somewhere just for fun, as far as we know. This kitten came back… with the help of another cat. Now, the owner wonders if this was something that the cat did on purpose or an accident, but we think that this is something that simply cannot be accidental. Your cat brought your kitten back.

    I have a black and white boy cat named Owen that i've had since May of 2021, raised him from about 6 weeks after getting him from a hoarder off of craigslist- we're close, but i'm closer with my other cats as they're indoor and Owen is outdoor/indoor.

    I just got my dream cat for my 25th bday last year- a sphynx my daughter named Kitty. Well my 2 year old left our sliding glass door cracked (we have a child lock that prevents them from opening it more than 3 inches). I guess i hadn't noticed the slider was open for over an hour.

    Kitty has been curious about outside but has never gone past the patio steps. After figuring out kitty is outside i start thoroughly combing through my backyard (fenced), running through our cross streets calling her name. Called animal control twice but they didn't get any lost pets or reports of a hairless cat.

    I pretty much figured if she ever got out that whoever found her would keep her since she's well worth over a thousand dollars. This is when i began crying, and panicking a little, she's just a kitten and the last thing i wanted was for somebody to snatch her and resell her.

    I decided to open a can of cat food in my backyard, no luck. I gave it to Elsa (tabby) and Owen to eat inside while i searched so that i didn't hear their meowing thinking it was Kitty. Owen is the type of cat to do the kool aid guy bust through the wall for a can of cat food.

    he does not and hasn't ever skipped a meal until today- I was in the backyard doing another search before i made missing cat posters. I was crying and saying kitty's name over and over while searching under things etc. I think Owen picked up on the situation, my energy, something?

    He must've known i was looking for her in some sort of capacity as he was lingering following me around instead of eating his wet food (totally out of character). I gave up and came inside to make the posters, within 2 minutes i hear Kitty meow!!!

    i ran to my slider and see Owen literally walking side by side with her all the way up to the slider and then indoor to my feet. Did he know she was lost and helped me find her?!?? has this happened before to anybody else???? i'm just so shocked that he read the situation and fixed it himself! at this point Kitty had been gone for hours, maybe when i stopped looking he took it upon himself to get her back home...

    i'd like to think he was telling her "you're in a sh load of trouble! get your a back NOW" on the way lol. I owe him some fancy expensive treats now, i'm just curious if anybody thinks that he knew what was going on and helped me or if it just happened to be random luck??

  • We definitely think that this cat knew what was happening. You said it yourself, the cat's behavior was completely abnormal leading up to him finding her. He knew something was wrong, and the only thing that was different was this one feline being out that is never out. So, he fixed it, and yes, you should definitely give him treats.

The legend says that if you describe your lost cat to the strays, including its name and appearance, they will communicate with each other and help guide your cat home. So I think your cat did help

    etchedchampion I think he knew. Once, I came home from work and noticed my Velcro cat did not meet me at the door like usual. I started looking around the house and talking to my dog asking her where the kitty was. The dog was just standing at the bottom of the stairs though, so I thought she didn't get it. I was checking one of the cat's fave hidey holes at the top of the stairs when I heard a faint meow from downstairs.

    Then I realized that the cat had become trapped in the bathroom at the bottom of the stairs. Where my dog was standing the entire time. She was trying to tell me where the cat was, I'm sure of it. Owen could tell you were distraught and heard you calling for Kitty. He has better ways to find her than we do so he brought her home to you.

  • We sincerely hope that this does not happen again, because this truly sounds like it had been an accident in your home, but in case it does… at least we know that you have a guardian cat outside who now knows for a fact that the way to get you to stop panicking is to bring your lost cats inside.

    machinationstudio I don't think it's random luck. Owen knows Kitty is part of the family. Owen knows Big Slow Kitten is distressed. Owen sees Kitty is not with the family. Owen fetched Kitty back to the family.
