He did well with what he had.

    The Monroe Doctrine is one of the most important pieces of American history. Monroe also dealt with the panic of 1819 which was in part caused by James Madison and the war of 1812. He also granted state hood to Maine and signed the Missouri compromise which in my opinion, was ok for the time being. I hold neutral feelings about it. Monroe nonetheless served a quiet two terms in office. The crisis being the only major events other than the Monroe Doctrine and Missouri Compromise.
