Losing a loved one you spent your childhood with isn't an easy experience to go through. This is especially true when you feel like they were the only trusted person truly there for you, and you, them. Companionship in any form is better than none at all, but there's something special about a bond between a grandkid who needs a mentor and a grandparent who simply wants to show them there is better in this tumultuous world.

Trips to Grandma's were no longer about stealing her pillow mints and eating her freshly-baked pie; you sought solace from the only person who hadn't let you down yet. When they grow older, you can only hope you will provide them as much solace as they gave you when you were young and needed it so desperately. In this next story, a loving granddaughter unknowingly reaps the reward for having been her late grandfather's sole caretaker, and her estranged brother is not happy with how the inheritance was split.
