Everyone has emergencies in their lives, but asking a coworker for shift coverage under the guise of an emergency, when you're actually intending to go to the beach for a "self-care" day, is messed up. This is a typical tale of a person who cried wolf, but it almost immediately blows up in their face.

The service industry, whether that be restaurant, hospitality, or retail, is annoying when it comes to shift coverage. The hours are irregular, and you get different shifts each week depending on who's away and who isn't. Sometimes, you even need to call out right before a shift because a family member fell ill, or you have to bring your pet to the emergency room, or you yourself aren't feeling too hot. In these cases, you must hope you have reliable coworkers who can do you a solid.
