Massage parlor holds last-minute mandatory meeting from 7-9 PM forcing worker to skip their fiancé's birthday: 'I don't do meetings outside of work hours. End of.'

Sometimes you make plans so far in advance that you can't believe the day will ever actually come. I remember feeling that way when I was starting high school, about graduation as a senior. It's so impossible to fathom because it feels so far away. "I'll be a completely different person by then," you think, and you'd be right. You undergo so much change in that timespan. But that's 4 years. What about 3 months? That's enough time to reorganize your life around, but not enough time to sweat about the future. It is certainly enough of a heads-up to give your boss about a prior commitment. 

But bosses don't always think that way. They don't always heed your advance requests for time off. They would much rather fly by the seat of their pants and spring anything on you at the last minute. It doesn't matter if you're celebrating a birthday or burying your beloved hermit crab. No, if a meeting needs to happen right now, it needs to happen right now, apparently. That's the situation one worker recently found themselves in when their fiancé's birthday was coming up.
