I have a confession to make—I've never been to Batuu. That's right, I have yet to set foot inside Disneyland's Star Wars land, sip on ice-cold blue milk, craft my own lightsaber, or take the Millennium Falcon for a spin. I know, blasphemy. But now? Now I have one more reason to finally make the pilgrimage—Luke Skywalker is coming to Galaxy's Edge.
For years, fans have scratched their heads wondering why you could meet Kylo Ren, Rey, and Chewbacca, but not the most iconic Jedi in the galaxy. Well, the wait is finally over. The official Disney Parks X account recently dropped a video of Luke Skywalker himself arriving on Batuu, with R2-D2 faithfully rolling at his side.
This is a huge deal because Luke Skywalker has never officially appeared at Galaxy's Edge before, and R2-D2 has only made rare appearances. But it does bring up a fun little continuity issue—Galaxy's Edge is set between Episodes VIII and IX, when Luke is long gone. The Mandalorian timeline, however, is much closer to Return of the Jedi, and Luke's new appearance suggests Disney is finally relaxing the strict timeline rules that originally kept certain characters out of Batuu.
For now, it looks like Luke and R2 will only be at Disneyland, not Walt Disney World, but with the Mandalorian & Grogu adventure coming to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at both parks, it's clear that Disney is getting more flexible with Star Wars canon. And honestly? It's about time.
Luke Skywalker meeting fans in person at Galaxy's Edge is something that should have happened years ago. But hey—better late than never.
