'Girl, I'm not giving you my wedding dress': Entitled 27-year-old demands that her cousin hand over her wedding dress so she doesn't have to buy her own, cousin refuses, family drama ensues

It's an age-old tradition for family members to absolutely lose their minds during the unnecessarily over-the-top process of planning a wedding. Sometimes, it's the bride and/or groom to blame for demanding far too much from the people in their wedding parties. Other times, it's the parents of the engaged couple, who refuse to stop inviting people from their circles. Sometimes, it's other peers and family members involved in the planning who become so fixated on fulfilling their dreams of a perfect gathering that they completely forget the vision of the actual married couple supposedly at the center of it all. Regardless of the specific circumstances, planning a wedding rarely brings out the best in people.

The best way to get through wedding planning is to think about the couple and to at the very least attempt to strike the balance between what is financially possible and what aligns best with the needs and wishes of the people getting married. Of course, there will always be a series of extraneous considerations, but if you continue to go back to these core principles, there should be fewer speed bumps. For this couple, a 27-year-old bride-to-be decided that she needed to invade her cousin's personal space and to demand to use the same exact wedding dress without expressed permission. Let's just say this bride was definitely prioritizing what she wanted, but she most certainly was not thinking enough about the feelings of others.

  • This story just goes to show that while the average person getting married tends to stress out over pleasing everyone else, this author's cousin had the opposite issue. She wasn't taking other people's thoughts and feelings into consideration. That doesn't just make for a frustrating wedding, but it makes for a frustrating person to have in your life.
