'I do all the work for him to get all the credit': Employee discovers he's leaving the company after boss announces his departure at a company-wide meeting

Most employees hope to leave their workplace environments on their own terms. Whether it's leaving for another opportunity or retiring altogether, people deserve to be the authors of these big life changes if they can help it. Of course, that's not always the case. In fact, most of the time, it's not. Most of the time, management is responsible for choosing whether or not to honor an employee's wishes or even allow them to maintain some dignity during their final days in their roles. 

Here, we have a scientist who had given years to his company and became the go-to chemist for various experiments. He worked alongside two biologists, who had their own duties and a completely different set of skills and expertise. Of course, their manager, who was not a scientific expert, assumed that their roles were relatively interchangeable. Not only did he begin to execute a plan to replace the chemist's position with one of his coworkers, but he also revealed this decision during a company-wide meeting. The employee in question had absolutely no clue that this was coming.

Imagine stomaching the reality that you are being forced out of your position within your company in front of everyone on a remote Zoom call. Talk about being put on the spot!
