If there is one thing that the internet of the 2020s has taught us, it is that all the stuff that exists online is not as permanent as many once believed it was. 'Once it's on the internet, it's there forever' used to be the mantra people would use to point to the fact that it is probably not a good idea to do anything too stupid or controversial on social media. While that last point still stands, what has become apparent is that any site, post, or piece of information can become lost media when it is in the wrong hands. 

Temporary as they are supposed to be, this makes memes that much more worth saving and keeping for a later date. They might just end up taking up yet more space on your camera roll, but at least you can sleep soundly knowing that if they disappear off the face of the earth, they have a home somewhere.
