Words are sometimes all we have. Think of lovers separated by oceans, only able to reach each other through letters. Before FaceTime, before phone calls, words on a page were all we had to express our greatest depths to each other. Think of countries drafting their constitutions. They didn't have algorithms or websites; they had words. On a page. Think of when you're in class, unable to communicate with your peers other than through passed notes. Looks and glances only do so much. In those situations, words are all you have. 

So it's no wonder that tweets are so important to us. They express so much. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a thousand words is worth a lot on its own. Tweets are perfect distillations of the moods, feelings, and thoughts of a culture. They're fast, they're fun, and they make us laugh. Sometimes out loud.
