    Hi yall, looking for some advice from experienced cat people. A stray cat has been hanging around our house for the past couple of months. From what we can tell, he's been living outdoors for a long time, We started feeding him every morning and night, and recently set up some outdoor beds for him.

    He's incredibly affectionate. Super cuddly, rubs on us constantly, and seems like he wants to come inside. He isn't neutered, and I don't think he's ever had vet care.

    mydogisatortoise Love him and squeeze him and call him George. I live in Washington too. We have outdoor barn cats who spend the cold seasons in our garage and on our porch. Try giving him a nice cardboard box. If he wants inside he'll follow you in.

    My cat was a barn cat in northern MN and seems to relish the cold, no matter how cold (even as far as -20°F). He has two separate coats similar to a husky and just loves the cold. Unlike a husky, however, he can handle heatwaves like a champ due to how hot it gets in that same area during the summer (though this makes him shed like nobodies business).

    Outdoor cats do actually make great indoor cats. Make sure that he is willing to stay inside though; take the time to slowly introduce him to the inside of the house, make sure you have litter boxes available, and finally slowly reduce the availability to go outside until you've got him fully indoors.

  • He may be okay outside, but invite the kitty in. Let him adjust to four walls slowly with nooks and patience. Couch life arrives one pawstep at a time.

    cursethedarkness I've rescued several outdoor only cats who transitioned to indoor only just fine (the sweetest cat I've ever had spent the first year and a half of her life outside. Transitioned inside just fine, and she's curled up on my stomach as I type this).

    Personally, I'd have him vetted and neutered. Bring him in and give it a couple months. If he absolutely hates it, set up a heated house outside and let him be indoor/outdoor. But from your description, he wants in and will stay in.
