Labor Day is reserved for hot dogs, complaining about how you have work tomorrow, and, of course, also thanking the American labor movement. The man in this next story spends his Labor Day weekend dealing with his disobedient step-nephew, who wreaks havoc on his entire family bonding experience.
The man's brother is in town visiting, and he brings his new wife and 9-year-old stepchild along with him. The man mentions that his brother was rather quick to marry this woman, but alas, what can you do? Instead of continuing to judge his brother's tastes in romance, he swallows his pride and welcomes them with open arms. He didn't know that his step-nephew would be an ill-behaved, tantrum-throwing fella who couldn't care less about rules, respect, or other people's feelings.
Now, I get it. 9-year-olds will be 9-year-olds. At what point, though, does this become not just a temperament issue, but also a parenting issue? Throughout their time spent together, this man's step-nephew threw a tantrum at Target because the man only bought him one toy out of a shopping cart full of them, harassed his pet cat, and destroyed his personal property. The brother apologizes, but his new wife? Boys will be boys. Scroll to read.
