One of my closest friends is in residency right now. We grew up together, and I've been to every milestone along the way — high school and college graduation, her white coat ceremony, med school graduation, and even her match ceremony. That one was the wildest to witness. They literally pulled names out of a jar, each student had a walk-up song, and then they opened their envelopes in front of a crowd to find out where they'd spend the next few years. It's strange watching people you once shared cafeteria pizza with suddenly turn into doctors.
